Intergenerational Memory of the Holocaust
Auerhahn, N.C., and Dori Laub. “Intergenerational Memory of the Holocaust” in The International Handbook of Multigenerational Legacies of Trauma (1998): 21-41. Available Online at springer.com.
This article presents the collective findings of Auerhahn and Laub over the course of their extensive work collecting testimony from the children of Holocaust survivors. They work to correct a strain of thought in Holocaust literature which holds that to identify the existence of a collective, intergenerational trauma relating to the Holocaust is to implicitly confirm a kind of psychological victory for National Socialism over the Jewish people.
