Performance

Victorious is a performance by Rebecca Belmore in which she constructs a dress from newspaper and honey around a seated figure (Daina Warren), who makes reference to Queen Victoria. The act of constructing a structure around her from newspapers refers to the role of the printed word as a vehicle for domination and control. Victorious was a reference to an apology issued by the Prime Minister of Canada (Stephen Harper) on June 11, 2008, to First Nations peoples, especially those who had suffered in Residential schools.
